the trevor project careers

The Trevor Project strives to send a clear message to LGBTQ young people that they should be proud of who they are, that they are deserving of love and support, and that they are never alone. Through direct services and innovative advocacy, public training, research, and technology programs, we amplify the experiences of LGBTQ young people, foster public understanding and acceptance, and facilitate the implementation of comprehensive, intersectional policy solutions to end the global public health crisis of LGBTQ youth suicide.

Our crisis counselors are trained to answer calls, chats, or texts from LGBTQ young people who reach out to our free and secure services when they are struggling with issues such as coming out, LGBTQ identity, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Our philosophy is that no crisis is too small or too large. Advocacy: We work to protect and support LGBTQ young people by improving access to affirming crisis care and support systems, while directly confronting the unique challenges and victimization that place them at significantly higher risk for suicide.

We advocate for pro-LGBTQ policies at the federal, state, and local levels — including protections against the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy, LGBTQ-inclusive data collection, and the Model School District Policy for Suicide Prevention — and against anti-LGBTQ bills and rhetoric, particularly those targeting the rights of transgender and nonbinary young people.

Public Training: We provide interactive and intensive training to help allies — from corporate partners and government entities to educators and other youth-serving professionals — better understand the unique needs of LGBTQ young people.

Research: We produce innovative, original research — including an annual national survey, quarterly reports, monthly briefs, and peer-reviewed journal articles — that amplify the experiences of diverse LGBTQ youth and bring new knowledge and clinical implications to the field of suicide prevention. In doing so, we equip fellow researchers, policymakers, and other youth-serving organizations with the data necessary to advance policies and practices that better support LGBTQ young people around the globe and work to end the public health crisis of suicide.

Technology: We are dedicated to best-in-class technology solutions within product development, AI and machine learning, engineering, and UX research to scale our life-saving programs to reach even more LGBTQ youth in crisis.
