As someone who has throughly analyzed hxh looking for all possible routes to Killugon, there's really nothing in canon that would hint at Gon's romantic or sexual preferences. Gon will probably be panned, not gay. It’s only that Gon isn’t really open-minded, as is evident from a date with Palm. It could be one of the very first canonical mainstream LGBTQIA romance-shonen manga that I had not realized when I was an infant.
